Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is a very powerful greenhouse gas.

In accordance with the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report in 2007, sulphur hexafluoride has a global warming potential 22,800 times stronger than carbon dioxide.

This colourless gas is slightly soluble in water, as well as soluble in alcohol and ether.

In addition, SF6 is mainly used in electrical transmission and distribution systems, as well as a dielectric in electronics.
